The Betrothal of Temujin and Borte

And thus began the trials of a young Genghis Khan

Temujin and Borte were betrothed at ages 9 and 10, respectively. I wouldn’t call them childhood sweethearts, exactly; companions, for a brief time, is more accurate. Still, as children do, they played together on the forested floors of Borte’s childhood home as their fathers sketched out the terms of the marriage.
